When I was in college I had a really good friend named Kelly who was a great writer. Kelly was an English literature major and really very smart . Kelly also had a heart of gold. She did a lot of missions work and would do anything for anyone body. She made friends really easily. Our sophomore year she became an English tutor and met Paul. Paul was an adult learning student. He was returning to school after he was let go from his last job. He did finally find some work but needed to receive an associate degree to keep this position. Kelly tutored him for weeks then one day after his fifth F in a row Paul came up to her and said “could you please, please write my research paper.”
I know Kelly was pretty surprised by this. Extremely taken aback. She was one of the few people I knew loved to write term papers. Kelly was a little odd that way. She really felt for Paul. She had been trying so hard to tutor him. The biggest problem Paul had was he could barely speak the language therefore he could barely write. The best grade Paul had gotten on a research pape was a D. Kelly knew he would surely flunk out without her help.
Paul told her about his family. He had a wife and three kids. His youngest child was born premature and had huge medical bills. Because of this his wife could not work. Paul did not want not lose his job over a college term paper. If he didn’t get an A on this next paper he would be not pass this class and would definitely be fired. Kelly felt like she had the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Kelly tried to help him. She sat with him day after day in the library trying to help him navigate through verbs and pronouns. She edited and reedited his college term papers. Kelly wanted to help him write the best term paper possible. After weeks of assisting him, Kelly realized he would be unable to write a college research term paper worth an A without some serious help. She constantly debated this. Paul had a huge term paper coming up where he would have to do lot of research and cite sources. If he failed this paper he would fail the class and lose his job.
Kelly worried about this for days. It would take her less than an hour to write this research paper. Finally my friend decided she had to do it. She knew he would fail out of school and probably not ever return if she didn’t help him. She had a real internal struggle brewing. Paul was going to be a quality control worker. He would never have as anyone to “write my research paper” again. She could do him this one favor.
From the day her friend came up to Kelly and said “write my research paper.” Kelly struggled with the idea to write a research paper for him. She knew her friend needed research paper help. It wasn’t because he was lazy or stupid. He honestly just couldn’t do it. She didn’t think it was fair for him to flunk out of school and lose his job just because he couldn’t write a college term paper. How many more times in his career would he ever have to write another research paper. Probably none. Kelly wrote that paper. And Paul became a quality control worker. I don’t think she still keeps in touch with but I know to this day she doesn’t regret writing his college term paper for him.
