A term paper is a record of whatever a student has learnt or read about a subject throughout his term. Thus usually term papers are submitted at the end of the term for the faculty to judge how well the student has understood the subject throughout the whole semester.

Choosing a subject is one of the most important tasks. The topic should absorb you completely and thus you should be able to collect ample material for the topic beforehand. The content should be original, valuable for the subject you are working on and should be corresponding to amount of knowledge you have. Now start looking for the material you have to follow for the paper. Make a list of the materials you think will be useful. Begin by making a headings list, which would cover all the topics that will be covered in the term paper and then start looking for the material. The usual materials include books, magazines, news stories, periodicals and journals. All of this stuff is easy to get from a local library or a bookstore. Now make a catalogue of all the names of the material you have collected. This catalogue is necessary to ensure that you don’t end up using only a small amount of material you have collected. Also it saves time when you are stuck up with a particular topic or argument.
Now that you have all the material you think is required for your term paper it is time to start gathering notes from them. One of the best ways to do so is to glide through the materials by just reading the headings of each article. Whichever article you think would be useful to you just jot down its location somewhere. You don’t want to end up looking for a particular article in all of the material again and again. It’s important to get the right kind of materials. Usually students tend to give more importance to the opinions rather than facts. Thought this is not the way to go. Collect down the facts and the opinions should be based on your own understanding, as it’s your own term paper that reflects your understanding of the subject. Don’t worry whether your opinion will be correct or not, all it matters is that your opinion should make sense in the context of the topic of your term paper. Always remember don’t hurry into writing. Just think over what you want to indicate in your term paper and then only start it. Before you start writing one thing that has to be kept in mind is the format to be used. You may want to use a propaganda style of writing. After you are done with the writing with your term paper just proof read it and check it for spelling mistakes and grammar. Always remember no matter where you are everyone has to write a term paper at least once in your lifetime. If proper steps are not followed the task can become a really hectic job and can haunt you for a long time but if done in a proper way it is not at all a frantic thing.
