Cut Cost By Buying Non Recycled Paper for Sale At Local Businesses
I work for a huge marketing company in downtown. It’s very well known and I make really good money for doing not much but sitting around all day. Well that’s not exactly true. Lately I have been so busy that I am not even able to check my e-mail. I honestly sit behind the front desk all day. I answer the phone, make some copies, get people coffee and pretty much look like I am busy. I have a four year degree so they pretty much pay me more than the average person. I like my job for the most part but I do feel a little underutilized. I began to not do a very good job looking busy. My supervisor decided to give me a new responsibility order all office supplies. That seemed easy enough. I thought I could do a fairly good job at this. Until I was given a budget on all supplies. The biggest expense I had to cut was paper. I had to be able to find four kinds of paper for sale at local businesses.
Finding four kinds of paper for sale was a lot harder than you think. Remember when I said I was being paid well. Well if I was being paid well I couldn’t imagine what everyone else was being paid. They drove some of the fanciest foreign cars you could think of. They were rich and snobby and they hated change. They wanted everything to constantly be the same. I didn’t think there was any possible way I would be able to find the same four kinds of paper for sale any where else.
I went to work looking on the internet at various different stores. I had to find copy paper, legal paper, memo paper and large pads of paper for presentations. You would not believe how many different kinds of paper there were and how much you could spend if you had the money. By the time I was done I was sure I could publish a term paper on this.
Four kinds of paper for sale was really hard to find. Not to mention I had to buy all the other supplies in the office. From stapler removers to ear pieces everyone had something to chime in about. Every single time I rifled through various office supply books look for deals there was some suite brown nosing me to order them some fancy pens. The second biggest expense next to the paper was the ink cartridges for the printers. They were so expensive. One cartridge for one printer was almost two hundred dollars. Not to mention each printer took at least four different color cartridges at once.
At last after two weeks of doing nothing but shopping for office supplies. I came to a realization. I am a big recycler but when you are trying to cut costs recycled products are usually considerably more than non recycled products. I know it’s terrible but when I was looking for each type of paper, time and time again I learned that the non-recycled ones were way cheaper than the recycled. On the other hand recycled ink cartridges were considerably cheaper than the brand new ones. I put the proposal together and brought this to my supervisor. He told me he noticed how busy I was the last couple of days and was really happy to see that I had found a way to cut costs. More so he was actually going to increase my pay since I now had a new responsibility. Corporate America, you have to love getting paid more for actually being busy not just looking busy.
